Assembly Instructions for the "Peace" and "Harmony" Kits
|
Step 1: Begin with 1 side panel, on edge, with the bottom grove (wide) up.
|
Step 2: Select the appropriate end panel
by matching the corresponding markings
on the bottom edges. Apply a small bead
of glue (approx. 1/8" wide) to the edge of
the end panel and screw the two panels
together. Wipe away any excess glue
with a damp cloth.
Helpful Hint: You will find it easier to assemble
the parts of your kit if you partially insert the
screws beforehand and let the tip of the screw
protrude approximately 1/4" as shown. The
screw tips can then be used to assist in lining up
the parts, one to the other.
Step 3: Apply another bead of glue to
the opposite edge of the end panel and
attach the second side panel.
Step 5: Next, slide the tongue &
groove bottom pieces into place
making sure the nicest side of the
board faces the coffin interior. Tap
each piece snuggly into place before
inserting the next one.
Step 6: After inserting the last bottom piece,
apply a small bead of glue to both edges of the
remaining end panel. Fit the panel in place and
secure with screws. Wipe away any excess
glue with a damp cloth. Tap a wooden plug
into each screw hole until flush and sand lightly
if necessary. Turn the coffin to its upright
position.
Step 7: Insert the “locking lip” on the
head lid with the grooves on the side
panels and slide into place. For
viewings this section of the lid may be
left off.
Step 8: Repeat the preceding step with the body lid and assembly of your “Peace” or
“Harmony” coffin kit is complete.
Step 4: Apply a small amount of glue to each end of
the middle support piece. Line up the arrows on this
piece with the arrows on the bottom edge of the side
panels and screw in place. The protruding screw
technique mentioned above is particularly helpful at
this point.
