Welcome to... THE OLD PINE BOX Handcrafted Solid Wood Coffins At Reasonable Prices
|
My name is Dienna Genther and I am the owner of THE OLD PINE BOX in Deadwood,
New Mexico. Thank you for taking the time to visit these various pages of my web site. I
appreciate your interest in my craft and my business.
I was born and raised in the extreme northwest corner
of Washington state and it is from that Evergreen
birthplace that I acquired my great love and respect for
trees. In my young years that love grew to include the
transforming of tree material into wonderful objects of
art known to most people simply as furniture.
Life led me along as it does, and I wound up
spending the first part of my adult life as a
remodel carpenter. It was a valuable and
satisfying career spent in the company of fine and
talented individuals. Unfortunately, the brutal
demands of construction began to wear on my
body and the long, damp, gray months of
Washington winters began to wear on my psyche.
New Mexico drew me south to its Enchanting land
of vast sky and brilliant sun.
Unwilling, and unable, to offer my body back up to the rigors of
home building, I had to fathom a new career. I did not just want
to make a living however, I wanted to make a difference. I had
spent the first half of my life amassing skills, I wanted to spend
the second half of my life using those skills in a meaningful way.
THE OLD PINE BOX seemed the answer to that dilemma. I
could use my talents to craft beautiful coffins for people who
might otherwise be unable to afford one. I could use my
knowledge to create natural, earth friendly vessels for people who
are offended by hermetically sealed boxes with inner-spring
mattresses. And I could use my business to educate people about
their options--people who might otherwise be manipulated in their
grief. I could think of nothing more meaningful than this.
In 2003, I built the workshop that now houses THE OLD PINE
BOX and in 2004 I began producing my first coffins.
There is still much growth to come and more products to add. I
appreciate your feedback and suggestions, they are always welcome.
THE OLD PINE BOX exists to make the death process easier for
those who must endure it. Please let me know how I may be able to
assist you. To those of you who allow me to provide the final resting
place for yourself or your loved ones, I thank you for the trust and
the honor.
May you live long and well,
Dienna Genther
Trees by Joyce Kilmer I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in summer wear A nest of robins in her hair; Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree.
